TRX is the native asset of TRON

TRON is a blockchain for transferring assets and running smart contracts. Its native coin is TRX. TRON’s resource model uses Bandwidth for transaction data and Energy for smart-contract computation.

Buying TRX is different from buying USDT on TRON. USDT is a separate token even when it appears beside TRX in the same wallet. Check the ticker when selecting the asset in Flow.

Select the TRX route your wallet supports

Flow’s TRX options include Tron (TRC-20) and BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20). These are different receiving routes. A Tron address typically starts with T; a BNB Smart Chain address starts with 0x.

For a TRON wallet intended to hold native TRX, select the Tron route when available. Choosing BNB Smart Chain does not fund the native balance on TRON. Match the asset, network and receiving address before confirming your order.

Why TRON resources matter after delivery

A basic TRX transfer and a smart-contract interaction use the network differently. If you intend to use TRX alongside TRON tokens, check the receiving wallet’s current resource estimate for the action you plan to take.

Do not assume that owning a TRON token removes the need for TRX or other network resources. Flow’s purchase and delivery are one journey; later transfers from your wallet follow TRON’s requirements and the wallet’s instructions.

Practical example

Adding native TRX to a TRON wallet

An illustrative walkthrough. Your order displays the current amount, quote and available networks.

  1. Open Receive for TRX in your TRON wallet. Confirm the mainnet receiving address beginning with T and compare it with the account you intend to fund.
  2. Choose TRON / TRX in Flow, select Tron (TRC-20) when available and enter an NZD amount. Check that you have selected TRX rather than USDT, then review the quote.
  3. Follow the payment details and track delivery. After the order records the transfer, check the TRX balance on TRON. A BNB Smart Chain wallet view will not show that native TRON balance.

Questions about buying TRON

Is TRX the same thing as TRC-20 USDT?

No. TRX is TRON’s native asset. TRC-20 USDT is Tether on the TRON network. Buying one does not automatically give you the other.

Will TRX on BNB Smart Chain fund my TRON resources?

It does not directly add native TRX to a TRON account. If your purpose requires TRX on TRON, use a supported Tron receiving route and a compatible TRON wallet.
