USDT tracks the US dollar, not the NZ dollar

Tether’s USDT is a stablecoin designed to track one US dollar. It is used to transfer dollar-denominated value across supported blockchains. A USDT purchase through Flow is paid for in NZD and delivered as crypto to your wallet.

One USDT is not one NZD. The NZD amount needed to buy USDT changes with currency conversion and the market quote. The peg is also not a guarantee that USDT will always trade at exactly one US dollar; issuer and market risks still matter.

Choose the USDT network your wallet actually accepts

Flow’s USDT network options include Ethereum (ERC-20), Tron (TRC-20), Solana and BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20). Use the options available on your order and match the receiving wallet’s instructions exactly.

A USDT balance on one network does not automatically appear on another. An address may look familiar or even be identical across compatible networks, so checking the address alone is insufficient. Confirm USDT, the network and the destination together.

Plan for the next transfer from your wallet

Receiving USDT and sending it onwards are separate steps. Your wallet may need the chosen network’s native coin or resources to make a later transfer. Check its requirements before moving your entire balance or relying on USDT alone to cover that activity.

Buying USDT through Flow does not create a Tether issuer account or promise direct redemption with Tether. Review the issuer’s information and Flow’s current quote before deciding how much to buy.

Practical example

Buying USDT for a TRC-20 wallet

An illustrative walkthrough. Your order displays the current amount, quote and available networks.

  1. Confirm your receiving wallet explicitly accepts USDT on Tron (TRC-20). Copy its USDT receiving address, which uses the Tron address format beginning with T.
  2. Choose Tether / USDT in Flow, select Tron (TRC-20) when available and enter the NZD amount. Review the USDT quantity and compare the network and address before confirming.
  3. Complete the payment instructions and follow delivery in your order activity. View the USDT balance on Tron in your wallet; an Ethereum USDT view will not show this transfer.

Questions about buying Tether

Will NZ$100 buy 100 USDT?

Not necessarily. USDT aims to track the US dollar, and your purchase is funded in New Zealand dollars. Use the current quote to see the USDT quantity for your NZD amount.

Can I send TRC-20 USDT to an ERC-20 deposit?

The receiving network must match. Do not send Tron USDT to a service that specifies an Ethereum-only deposit. Choose a compatible route before confirming your Flow order.
